Here are a few questions that we recommend you ask your healthcare practitioner:
- What results can I expect from the treatment?
- What happens during the treatment?
- Could my medical history or previous treatments affect or prevent treatment?
- Are there any side effects and precautions that I should know about?
- Is there anything I should do before and after treatment?
- Any other question you may have
You will always have a consultation before your first treatment. Think through what you want to achieve and the questions you may have. Your healthcare practitioner will inform you how Restylane fillers and Restylane Skinboosters can be used in a safe way to suit your own individual aspirations. You will also be asked about your medical history. When you leave your consultation, you should feel well informed about Restylane fillers and Restylane Skinboosters and you should know what results to expect.
Make sure that you contact a clinic with qualified practitioner(s) to ensure that your treatment will be performed correctly. You could always search in national registers of licensed aesthetic treatment specialists. Your treatment should be performed in a medical environment that provides privacy and is spotlessly clean. You can always request to see training certificates and insurance certificates to ensure that your healthcare practitioner has received the appropriate training and is insured for the treatment.
After the treatment you will receive post-treatment guidelines. It is normal to experience some post-treatment discomfort, such as redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the treatment site. These side effects generally disappear within a few days or up to two weeks after injection.
Other potential side effects can occur with dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid. You should discuss the potential treatment risks with your healthcare practitioner. Following treatment, there is sometimes a need for a touch-up treatment to achieve an optimal result.
Only a medically qualified practitioner should perform Restylane treatments. Depending on your country’s legislation, this may include plastic surgeons, cosmetic clinicians, dermatologists, cosmetic dentists, or aesthetic nurses. If in doubt, please contact Galderma.
- You should receive comprehensive information and a detailed explanation regarding the treatment.
- You should be informed of the possibilities and limitations of treatments with hyaluronic acid
- You should receive information about possible side effects and precautions for treatment
- You should be informed of the cost of the treatment and possible follow-up treatments
- Your questions should be answered to your full satisfaction
There are several important precautions to discuss with your healthcare practitioner to ensure satisfactory results and avoid any complications. Discuss the following with your healthcare practitioner:
- If you are taking immunosuppressive medications
- If you are taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or any other medication that affects bleeding
- If you have any questions about precautions related to the treatment
First, the healthcare practitioner disinfects the area to be treated. A small amount of the appropriate Restylane filler is then injected into the skin through a fine needle or blunt micro-cannula to fill wrinkles, add volume, shape your face or fill your lips. After the injection, your practitioner may gently massage the treated area to even out the result.
Your healthcare practitioner will disinfect the area that will be treated. Tiny droplets of hyaluronic acid will then be injected just below the skin surface through a fine needle to rehydrate your skin. Lidocaine, a local anesthetic, will take away most of the discomfort that you may experience during the treatment.
A treatment with Restylane does not take long. Depending on the area and indication, it takes approximately 15-45 minutes. A touch-up treatment is sometimes performed approximately two weeks after the initial treatment to optimize the results.
Depending on the area, a treatment takes approximately 15-45 minutes. To achieve optimal results, a treatment program usually starts with 3 treatment sessions, 2 to 4 weeks apart. Thereafter, maintenance treatments are typically recommended every 4-6 months.
Ask your healthcare practitioner if you will benefit from treatment with any of the hyaluronic acid products within the Restylane range. It is important when discussing your medical history to tell your practitioner everything, including all medicines that you are taking, any present and past allergies and their seriousness, and all current or past medical conditions you have had. Your practitioner will discuss potential side effects from the injection of Restylane and how serious they may be. You should also inform your practitioner if you have received previous aesthetic treatments, both surgical and non-surgical.
Patients with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid-based products should not undergo treatment, nor should patients with bleeding disorders, or active skin diseases such as inflammation, infection or tumors in or near the area to be treated. Discuss contraindications, warnings and precautions with your healthcare practitioner before having Restylane filler or Restylane Skinboosters treatments.
In the case of Restylane Skinboosters, if you have deep wrinkles and folds, another treatment could be more beneficial for you. Please ask your healthcare practitioner what treatment will give you the best results.
Please note that Restylane Skinboosters is recommended for people who are 18 years or older.
As Restylane is a non-permanent injectable hyaluronic acid product, the effect gradually diminishes with time. In order to maintain the aesthetic result, additional treatments, or top-up treatments, are recommended. Results may vary depending on the treatment area.
Avoid applying make-up to the skin immediately after treatment.
- Light cover up may be used to conceal any remaining redness after approximately 24 hours
- A yellow-toned concealer may be used to hide signs of bruising
- In order to cover up any redness, a concealer with a slight green/yellow tone is recommended
The most common side effects include treatment site reactions such as swelling, bruising, redness, pain and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear within a few days or up to two weeks after injection. Other potential side effects can occur with dermal filler or Skinboosters injections. You should discuss the potential treatment risks with your healthcare practitioner.
